Gwangju was selected as ‘Deputy Coordinator’ as UCCN on Media Arts

Gwangju City and Gwangju Cultural Foundation announced that Gwangju City was selected as Deputy Coordinator for Unesco Creative City Network(UCCN) on Media Arts since 2017.

 

As following the request from France, Enghien-les-Bains to Gwangju since new creative city was joined in network and tasks are added, Gwangju took responsibility of crucial role after reviewing qualification over the procedure by a mediation committee at Unesco Headquater.

 

It is significant meaning that Gwangju is only one city who was selected as coordinator in UCCN in Korea so far. Gwangju City will take an initiative role to support evaluating qualification of candidate city, monitoring member’s cities, managing communication between creative cities and furthermore leading specializing project so on. Moreover, Gwangju will also engage in related task of mediation committee and the department task about Media Arts Creative Cities.

 

Gwangju Cultural Foundation will hold ‘policy forum with Unesco Creative Cities on Media Arts’(9 cities from 8 countries) on upcoming 1st to 3rd of December with theme of ‘4th Industry Revolution, Media Arts and Future City’ and ‘2017 Gwangju Media Arts Festival’ will hold alongside.

 

According to recent (2017) analysis, the range of network is expanded to 72 countries and 180 cities who has joined in Unesco Creative City Network(UCCN).

Among them, the cities who has joined in Media Arts fields are Gwangju(Korea), Lyon and Enghien-les-Bains(France), Sapporo(Japan), Dakar(Senegal), Linz(Austria), Tel Aviv(Israel), York(England), Austin(America), Braga(Portugal), Changsha(China), Guadalajara(Mexico), Kosice(Slovakia), Toronto(Canada), in total 14 cities from 13 countries.
